Poker Jason Glazer 21.07.2024

It has been an amazing start to the 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Tallinn at the luxurious Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park.

Saturday witnessed three players winning side event titles as Finland’s Ekrem Esker Atush, Latvia’s Vladimirs Svesnikovs, and Finland’s Semi Matias Rantanen were all crowned championships.

Meanwhile, the first of 12 WSOPC Tallinn ring events came closer to awarding its first gold ring with 665 entries already hopping into the two-day Event #1: €250 No-Limit Hold’em ring event with more to come with late registration remaining open on Sunday for the first two blind levels after the action resumes at 12 p.m.

Meanwhile, the cash games were hopping all night long, while a dozen players punched their seats in a late-night €80 satellite to Event #3: €555 No-Limit Hold’em.

Read on to learn more about what transpired on Saturday’s Day 2 of the 2024 WSOPC Tallinn.

Georgi Abuladze Leads Event #1: €250 NLH

The first ring event boasted an affordable price point, and players responded in a huge way, with 665 entries already getting into the mix after players battled for four opening flights over the past two days. The prize pool is already at €140,448 and will continue to grow with players already planning to file in, while others plan to re-enter if things don’t pan out, as late registration is closed on Sunday’s final day after the first two 30-minute blind levels are completed.

A total of 257 players advanced during the opening flights with a new chip leader crowned at the end of the night giving the local Estonian community some hope of keeping the first ring on home soil after Day 1d chip leader Georgi Abuladze parlayed his 20,000 opening stack into 175,000 after 10 blind levels.

Day 1a chip leader from France Anthony Lesoismier-Geniaux held the chip lead until then with 169,900 and will start the day just behind Abuladze.

Meanwhile, Day 1b chip leader Jon Kyte from Norway came to play. Kyte won a ring last year in the €1,100 Pot-Limit Omaha and is hungry this year to add another piece of hardware for a different finger. He hopped into the €250 Open-Face Chinese Pineapple event on his “off day” and managed to advanced to the podium in that event as well before bowing out in third place where he will start on Sunday on Day 2 in the €250 No-Limit Hold’em with 165,400.

Estonian’s Igor Aleksandrov (164,700), Spain’s Josep Pastor De Ramon (157,600), Poland’s Dominik Ostrowski (149,100), 2023 Kings of Tallinn Summer Showdown runner-up from Germany Phil Gross (140,000), Estonia’s Ivar Simmer (136,400), Lithuania’s Vitalijus Kuzmicius (131,800), and Finland’s Rasmus Lindstrom (131,700) round out the top 10.

Saturday Side Event Results

Finland’s Ekrem Esker Atush shipped the first side event of the 2024 WSOPC Tallinn after defeating Ukraine’s Mykhailo Mikhalov heads-up. Both Atush and Mikhailov earned the €5,005 top prize from the prize pool before Atush won the big progressive bounty at the end along with the trophy. The event attracted a healthy field of 123 entries to create a €37,195 prize pool, including €12,300 reserved for the bounties.

Meanwhile, the €250 Open Face Chinese Pineapple (OFCP) was full of excitement. A field of 64 entries created a €13,517 prize pool for one of the biggest European OFCP tournaments in history. The final table boasted two of the more well-known players that frequent Tallinn to play poker regularly including Finland’s Jussi “Potti-Jussi” Mattila and Jon Kyte. Kyte hit the rail in third place after Italy’s Marco Lopalco lost his stack to exit in fourth place. Mattila was unable to earn the trophy and had to settle for a €2,810 runner-up prize, while Latvia’s Vladimirs Svensikovs won what turned out to be a very social event for €4,370.

The €150 PLO 4/5/6 Progressive Bounty attracted 178 entries to create a €22,214 prize pool, which included €7,120 for the progressive bounties. Poker streamer Scott Kenyon was looking forward to the previous event in the OFCP but instead had to settle for a final table performance in the PLO affair before bowing out in eighth place for €460 plus bounties. It was the domination nation for Finland after Estonia’s Madis Ormisson, Ireland’s Greg King, Finland’s Leevi Petteri Laiho, and Norway’s Christopher Berggren all hit the rail, leaving a trio of Finns competing for the title. Marko Voutilainen bowed out in third place for €1,780 plus bounties leaving Semi Matias Rantanen and Eero Santanen heads-up with both guaranteed a €2,582 payout from the prize pool. Rantanen came out on top to win the final two progressive bounties and the trophy to complete a glorious day of events at Olympic Park Casino.
