2024 WSOPC Tallinn Day 4: Pyysing and Von Zweigbergk Win Rings
Two long-time players at Olympic Casino Tallinn found gold on Monday on the fourth day of the 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Tallinn at Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park.
Estonian resident from Sweden Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk put on a dazzling display in front of a supportive rail to win the two-day Event #2: €350 8-Game ring event for €8,020, while Finnish poker journalist and long-time player Aki Pyysing won the one-day Event #4: €350 PLO 4&5 Progressive Bounty for €6,300 in addition to bounties.
This was the first taste of WSOP gold for both players. In addition to the prizes and the custom-fitted WSOP Circuit gold rings, both players will be invited to play for more WSOP hardware in the form of a gold bracelet in the $1 million guaranteed WSOP Tournament of Champions next summer.
Meanwhile, Sweden’s Jenny Westerlund has the overnight chip lead at the final table in the two-day Event #5: €250 Queens Ladies Only event. The final table will be broadcast live on a 30-minute delay with hole cards exposed at 4:30 p.m. with the official action beginning at 4 p.m. You can follow along with the stream and our live reports on this event at OlyBet.tv.
Meanwhile, Norway’s Gunnar Wedde, who was at the final table in the €350 8-Game may not have won a ring but won a trophy later in the day instead after shipping the 64-entry €250 Deuce to Seven Pot Limit Triple Draw for €3,665.
Estonia’s Tom Teslon also won a trophy in the €250 NLH Progressive Bounty for €3,570 plus bounties after a three-way deal with Latvia’s Pavels Kazakovs and Lithuania’s Vitalijus Kuzmicius.
Henri Tanskanen won the final side event trophy on Monday after winning the €350 NLH & PLO 4 & 5 Progressive Bounty for €2,980.
Martin von Zweigbergk Wins 8-Game Ring
On its opening day, the two-day Event #2: €350 8-Game WSOP Circuit ring event attracted 90 entries for a €27,216 prize pool, creating one of the biggest mixed-game events in European poker history outside of the WSOP itself.
The final table stage was set on Sunday after Finland’s Iiro Kettunen (8th – €910), Estonia’s Morten Hermo (ninth – €910), Finland’s Aki Pyysing (10th – €713), and Finland’s Jari Mahonen (11th – €713) all hit the rail in the money to end the opening day. Pyysing’s exit was likely a saving grace as he went on to win a ring later in the day.
Norway’s Tarjei Forus led the way to start the final table with eventual winner Martin von Zweigbergk in fifth place. Von Zweigbergk was short on chips after Ukraine’s Stanislav Anufriiey (sixth – €1,490) and United Kingdom’s Benjamin Sweetman (seventh – €1,170) were eliminated before mounting a comeback.
Three Norwegians, Orjan Skommo (third – €3,590), start-of-day chip leader Tarjei Forus (fourth – €2,610), and side-event champion Gunnar Wedde (fifth – €1,930), hit the rail in succession, leaving just von Zweigbergk and Finland’s Toomas Makikokko heads-up for the title.
The lead went back and forth in an intense, yet light-hearted, battle between the duo. The rail celebrated along with von Zweigbergk after he won the final hand to earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring along with the €8,020 top prize, while Makikokko settled for the healthy €5,160 runner-up prize.

Finnish Legend Aki Pyysing Wins PLO PKO Ring

Pyysing is well known throughout Europe, especially in his home country of Finland, as an avid poker player capable of running deep in various poker formats. While Pyysing was unable to earn the 8-Game ring that von Zweigbergk earned, he more than made up for it by winning a ring of his own in the one-day Event #4: €350 PLO 4&5 Progressive Bounty on Monday after defeating Rasmus Ekstrom heads-up. Pyysing and Ekstrom earned the €6,300 top prize, with Pyysing earning a huge progressive bounty in the end for a much larger payday.
