Day 10: Sunday, 27 October

Matias Siljander Wins Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition Main Event (€130,300)

The final day of the inaugural 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition at Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park produced the biggest champions. Many players emotionally shared their tearful goodbyes to their teammates and friends, while competing for a final shot at Kings of Tallinn glory and the final chances at leaderboard points for the Team Competition.

Finland’s Matias Siljander was not only the star of the day but the star of the entire festival as he came back from a massive deficit during heads-up play against fellow Finn Elias Suhonen before storming back to victory in the €1,100 Main Event to win the huge €130,300 top prize. The action played out in front of a live-streamed audience, while Frank Visser was busy reporting the action on OlyBet.tv and provided the recap below about this epic event.

Meanwhile, Marius Bareisis shipped the two-day €3,000 NLH 6-Max for €47,930. The two-day event attracted 53 entries for a €140,980. You can read more about this event in the live blog provided by this author on OlyBet.tv.

Finland’s Teemu Toikkanen defeated Rasmus Lundstrom heads-up to win the one-day €555 NLH for €9,740 with 61 entries getting into the mix to create a €28,670 prize pool.

Meanwhile, another Finnish player won the two-day €350 PLO4/PLO5 Progressive Bounty with both Totti Arouso defeating Estonia’s Andres Abakanov to win the trophy. Both Arouso and Abakanov earned the €3,330 top prize with Arouso claiming the big bounty at the end of the event after eliminating his final opponent.

Meanwhile, the €150 Queens champion Indre Martoviciute-Kasten became the only player to win two trophies at the Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition after she defeated Finland’s Jari Saviaho heads-up in the €150 Mini Main Event Hyper Turbo for €2,960 to cap off an amazing festival.

The online event at OlyBet Poker took place Saturday evening with Estonia’s Ralf Mikk defeating a field of 57 entries to win €2,545.

Siljander’s Epic Road to Victory in the Main Event

For many a poker player, winning a Main Event is the stuff of dreams. The glory, trophy, and of course the loads of cash that come with victory encapsulate everything a tournament player is after. However, for Matias Siljander it seemed to be just another day at the office at Olympic Park Casino. He sat down for his sixth Main Event final table at the venue, and, like he had done twice before, came out on top as the victor.

Siljander captured his first official Kings of Tallinn Main Event trophy at the Autumn Edition and won €130,300, his best-ever score and first six-figure one. He started his heads-up battle against fellow Finnish grinder Elias Suhonen with a one-to-six chip disadvantage but managed to turn it around to ultimately be crowned the champion.

Siljander and Suhonen were part of the same team in the iconic Kings of Tallinn team competition. Each team consists of a maximum of four players, so to have two of them navigate the field of 701 entries to end up heads-up is a remarkable feat. However, while the valuable points they earned for their team resulted in some extra cash, it must have felt like just a bonus to the gargantuan sums they walked away with in the Main Event, with Suhonen’s runner-up performance netting him a not-too-shabby €83,400.

Meanwhile, Greek player Enea Subashi took home the third-largest share of the €658,940 prize pool, with the €55,200 bronze medal tripling his total live earnings. Ukrainians Vasyl Laba and Serhii Leonov completed the top five, both hauling career-best scores as well.

Day 4 Action

With the final nine returning to the table with an average stack of 60 big blinds, it was no surprise that the day started slowly. In fact, two levels went by without any eliminations, and not much had changed when the first break had been reached. Start-of-day chip leader Leonov still sat at the top, while short stacks Subashi and Simon Hassan remained at the bottom.

After the break, the fireworks finally kicked off. Hassan was the first to be eliminated when he got his top pair in against Subashi on the turn. Subashi had the same pair but rivered two pair to provide a sour exit in ninth for Hassan. About an hour later, Estonia’s last hope Ruslan Stserbjuk got his chips in preflop with kings. He was up against the ace-king of Suhonen in a huge cooler. Suhonen spiked an ace on the flop to take down the pot, take over the chip lead, and eliminate Stserbjuk in eighth.

Stserbjuk’s exit may have been sour, but it paled in comparison to Daniel Clifford’s. Clifford had made a full house on the river and shoved in all of his chips. However, Suhonen had made a straight flush on the turn, knocking out the disillusioned Clifford in eighth place. Aku-Oskari Uotila was next in line to get coolered by Suhonen. He had rivered jacks full of aces but Suhonen had the last jack in his hand and eliminated his fellow countryman in sixth.

At that point, Suhonen had created a huge gap between him and Subashi in second place. Subashi closed the gap a bit by eliminating Leonov in fifth place with jacks against tens, only to see Suhonen knock out Laba in fourth in a preflop flip not much later, undoing his gains.

Short-Handed Play

Three-handed play lasted for two hours. It was here where Subashi, who had been relatively quiet up until that point, unleashed relentless aggression upon his two Finnish opponents, netting him a sizable chip lead. However, as he lived by the sword, he would die by the sword. After pulling off several successful bluffs, Subashi fired three streets with ace-high against Suhonen. Suhonen called down with top pair to reclaim his lead.

Not much later, Subashi called down with top pair against Suhonen’s trips, leaving him with just ten big blinds. After a few orbits, he committed those to the middle and lost them to his nemesis as well.

By knocking out Subashi in third place, Suhonen started the heads-up match with a gigantic chip advantage. He had nearly 18 million chips at his disposal while Siljander was stuck with three million. However, Siljander quickly doubled up with a flush against a straight, after which he won the majority of pots to balance the chip counts evenly.

After some back-and-forth, Siljander finally created a gap with Suhonen when he called his triple barrel bluff with two pair. Suhonen started to mount a comeback from his one-to-four disadvantage, but ultimately the tournament ended like so many others: the players got it in the middle in a preflop flip. Siljander’s ace-king made top pair against Suhonen’s pocket tens, crowning him the Kings of Tallinn: Autumn Edition Main Event champion.

That concludes the live coverage of Kings of Tallinn: Autumn edition. However, the organization of renowned tournament series has more in store in the near future.

The Kings are stepping foot outside Estonia for the very first time as Kings of Vilnius takes place in the Lithuanian capital from November 15 to November 24, with a €250,000 guarantee Main Event.

Next up is the ladies-only Queens of Tallinn. After a successful first edition last year, the event returns to Olympic Park Casino from November 28 to December 1.

Last, but certainly not least, is the 10th Anniversary of Kings of Tallinn, which is already confirmed for February 21 to March 2 at the same Olympic Park Casino. The schedule is not yet known, but no doubt that more information will be made public soon.

Stay tuned for information and coverage of all the events above as the enthusiastic Baltic and Scandinavian poker scenes never rest.

The exciting new €150 Five Card Mix which included Sviten Special, PLO5, and PL 5-Card Triple Draw proved to be a hit with a €7,454 prize pool created from the 61 player field. Finland earned its only title of the day after Risto Ponnio defeated Norway’s Tobias Napel heads-up to claim the €2,544 top prize.

Finally, the €250 NLH Hyper Turbo was a fun nightly affair that attracted 80 entries to create a €16,544 prize pool. The local country of Estonia got into the winner’s circle at the end of the day after Estonia’s Henry Arnhold defeated Norway’s Bernt Wetten heads-up to earn the €4,860 top prize.

Day 7: Thursday, 24 October

Six Kings of Tallinn Champions Crowned on Thursday

Thursday witnessed fireworks and excitement at the 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition at Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park, where six different champions were crowned.

Finland’s Joel Haapio was the star of the day after coming from behind to defeat fellow Finn Rasmus Lundstrom heads-up in the three-day €555 NLH Championship for €47,560 in front of a live-streamed audience at OlyBet.tv with the history of this event immortalized through the live reporting also at OlyBet.tv.

Swedish WSOP Tallinn ring winner Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk added another trophy to his collect after he defeated a field of 51 entries in the €250 PL Stud / Stud Hi-Lo for €3,590, while Finland’s Miska Vihervouri won a different stud even in the five-card €150 Soko Hi / Soko Lo for €2,365.

Sweden’s Nils Linden defeated a field of 126 entries in the €250 NLH to win €6,680, while the legendary Ilari “Ziigmund” Saharies proved that time was no test and defeated a field of 145 entries in the €250 PLO4 / PLO5 / PLO6 Progressive Bounty for €2,840 plus bounties.

Estonia got on the board with a trophy after Rasmus Parts came out on top of a field of 126 entries in the €150 NLH Hyper Turbo to claim the €3,710 top prize.

Meanwhile, the €500,000 guarantee was smashed yesterday in the €1,100 Kings of Tallinn Main Event with 554 entries already in the mix. Day 2 will start on Friday at Noon with more players getting into the mix with unlimited re-entries and late registration still open during the first four hour-long blind levels of the day.

Read on to learn more about what transpired on Day 7 of the 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition:

Joel Haapio Comes From Behind to Win the €555 NLH Championship

“Never give up,” and “a chip and a chair.” Phrases every poker player has heard at some point at the tables, but sometimes a situation looks dire enough to throw them into the wind. However, today, Joel Haapio proved that there is truth to the common statements. Haapio was down to a ten-to-one chip disadvantage at one point in the heads-up battle for the Kings of Tallinn: Autumn Edition €555 Championship, but ultimately persevered over Rasmus Lundstrom to take home the trophy and a career-best score of €47,560.

Meanwhile, Lundstrom limited the damage as he walked away with €41,200, also a record-setting score for him, as the players had made a heads-up deal when Lundstrom started the heads-up with a small chip advantage. Turkey’s Koray Korkmaz took home the bronze medal and added €24,500 to his seven-figure live earnings, while €5,000 Progressive Bounty runner-up Justas Vaiciulionis and Finnish grinder Tommi Lankinen also made an appearance at the final table.

Day 3 Action

At the start of Day 3, only 16 of the 583 entries returned to Olympic Park Casino to divide the lion’s share of the €274,010 prize pool and determine who would walk away the champion. Estonian Powerhouses Tarmo Tammel and Igor Pihela Sr. started the day short and were quickly dispatched off in 16th and 14th place, earning €2,700 and €3,100 respectively.

The entertaining Timo Ruuska’s (12th – €3,550) fate was ultimately decided by a dice roll as that is how he decided to call off against Vaiciulionis’ flush. Ultimately, Finnish regular Juho Suutari ended up as the final table bubble boy, also eliminated by Vaiciulionis.

Lundstrom came into the third day as a massive chip leader, but Korkmaz had worked his way up the rankings throughout the first two and a half hours of poker and started the final table with a slight edge.

Two ladies were still in contention when the final table got underway. Hanna Heinlo and Kristiana Stauere had been short throughout the later stages of Day 2 and the entirety of Day 3, but managed to climb the pay-jump ladder all the way to the final table. That is where their story ended, however, as Heinlo, Estonia’s last hope, ended in ninth place while Stauere got her final ladder to eighth.

While Korkmaz and Lundstrom were busy battling for the chip lead, Vaiciulionis knocked out Lankinen in seventh. Six-handed play then continued for a while, and the stacks ended up relatively even at the first break of the final table.

However, Lundstrom soon pulled away from the pack again as he eliminated Thanh Doan in sixth place and not long after Vaiciulionis in fifth. Korkmaz joined him atop the counts by knocking out Algirdas Saveikis in fourth place, leaving Haapio as the absolute short stack three-handed.

Korkmaz’s stay at the top would be short-lived, however, as Lundstrom hero-called his bluff with bottom pair before Haapio eliminated him not much later. The two Finns then agreed to a deal heads-up, leaving €8,000 and the trophy to play for.

Heads-Up Play

Lundstrom started the heads-up with a slight chip advantage and soon pulled away further as every pot seemed to head in his direction. A pattern occurred where Lundstrom had Haapio on the ropes and Haapio doubled up to stay in contention. In fact, Haapio won four at-risk all-ins until he finally had the chip advantage.

Finally, Haapio had Lundstrum at risk with pocket deuces against ace-deuce. The board remained free of any aces, and Haapio’s rail rushed toward him. They embraced him in an emotional spectacle. He hoisted the trophy before cashing out his best-ever score and heading into the night to celebrate.

Four Players From Four Countries Win KoT Trophies on Wednesday

Wednesday was another spectacular day at the 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition at Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park. Four players from four different countries were crowned champions.

Finland’s Jarmo Salonen shipped the €150 NLH Deepstack Progressive Bounty for €2,340 plus bounties, while shortly afterward, the Irish poker community won its first trophy after Edmond Fogerty won the €150 NLH/PLO4/PLO5 Mix for €4,292.

The €250 2-7 Triple Draw Six-Max trophy stayed in Estonia after local Estonian beast Markku Koplimaa, who has been recently branching out into mixed games, defeated Finland’s Mikko Ylamaki to win the €3,366 top prize. Meanwhile, Germany’s Sascha Manns, who often visits Estonia during international poker events, won the €250 NLH Hyper Turbo for €5,390.

The €555 Championship played out its penultimate day, with the field reaching 583 entries during the opening moments of Wednesday’s Day 2 to create a €274,010 prize pool. The final 16 players return on Thursday at 1 p.m. with €2,700 already locked up in hopes of winning the €52,760 top prize. OlyBet.tv will continue with its live reporting of this event led by Rasmus Lundstrom and live stream the entire day with hole cards exposed on a 30 minute delay.

The €500,000 guaranteed €1,100 Kings of Tallinn Main Event also began on Wednesday with 143 entries hopping into Day 1a. Latvia’s Andrejs Perederejevs bagged the overnight chip lead after parlaying his 30,000 opening stack into 217,500 in chips.

Jarmo Salonen Wins €150 Deepstack Progressive Bounty

A day hardly passes at the Kings of Tallinn without a Finnish winner in recent festivals. The trend was almost bucked in the €150 Deepstack Progressive Bounty.

The event attracted 157 entries to create a €19,185 prize pool, including €6,280 set aside for progressive bounties. Finland’s Jarmo Salonen found himself surrounded by a trio of Estonians with four players left. Kaido Kuus and Eedi Kirves were both eliminated, leaving Salonen and Maksim Paponov heads-up, with both players already locking in the €2,340 top prize. Salonen won the trophy and the big bounty at the end to save Finland from being blanked on the day with no other events producing a Finnish champion on Wednesday.

The €150 NLH/PLO4/PLO5 proved to be popular among hold’em and Omaha enthusiasts alike, with 142 entries creating a €17,352 prize pool.

It appeared there could be a chance for a second Finnish trophy on Wednesday with two Finns still battling with three players remaining. However, Ireland’s Edmond Fogarty shined the brightest by winning the event for €4,292 with the Finnish duo of Mikael Haapaniemi (second – €2,810) and Aku-Oskari Uotila (third – €2,010) also handsomely rewarded for their podium performances.

Koistinen, Suviste, and Nildo Hoist Trophies on Day 3

The inaugural Kings of Tallinn 2024 Autumn Edition crowned its fourth, fifth, and sixth champions on a busy Sunday at Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park.

Finland’s Mikael Koistinen won the first trophy of the day after winning the two-day Event #6: €350 8-Game for €4,636. The Estonian flag was finally waved for the first time after Siim Suviste won the one-day Event #10: €250 OFC Pineapple. After Estonia became the fourth country represented in the winner’s circle during the festival, with players from Bulgaria, Finland, and Latvia already winning trophies during the first two days, a second player from Estonia in Siim Niido won the one-day Event #11: €150 NLH DeepStack for €4,888.

In other news, the two-day Event #7: €350 Kings of Tallinn Cup played out its second and third opening flights. The field has already reached 245 entries to add €72,544 to the prize pool. Many more are expected to join the action when it resumes on Monday at Noon for the second and final day, with late registration remaining open during the first two blind levels of the day. Finland’s Miika Toyras (214,000) and Poland’s Bartosz Wesolek (207,500) were the only two players to catapult their 30,000 opening stacks into more than 200,000 in chips during the opening flights.

Meanwhile, 31 entries entered the two-day Event #12: €2,000 NLH Progressive Bounty, with the final five players battling it out for their share of the €53,909 prize pool, which includes €24,800 in progressive bounties. The first day of the two-day Event #14: €250 HORSE attracted 51 entries for a €10,546 prize pool, with the final six players returning on Monday to compete for €3,537 top prize with already a €640 min-cash locked up.

Read on to learn more about what transpired on Day 3 of the 2024 Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition:

Mikael Koistinen Wins €350 8-Game (€4,636)

The €350 8-Game was one of the many tournaments on the schedule to receive a makeover with a 30-minute blind structure and a second day added. A total of 42 entries got into the mix to generate a €12,436 prize pool, with the final five competing on Day 2 already in the money.

The title was guaranteed to be awarded to either a player from Finland or the home country of Estonia. Two Finns in Ville Kontinen (fourth – €1,380) and Juho Suutari (fifth – €790) were the first two players on the rail before Estonia’s Andres Abakanov (third – €2,210) was the first player out on the podium.

This left Estonian poker beast Markku Koplimaa battling it out for the first Estonian title this festival against Finland’s Mikael Koistinen for the title. Koistinen defeated his opponent to win the €4,636 top prize, while Koplimaa added the runner-up prize of €3,420 to his bankroll for his efforts.

Suviste Wins First Trophy for Estonia

The one-day €250 OFC Pineapple proved to be popular once again with 68 entries creating a €14,062 prize pool.

The pressure was on Estonia’s Siim Suviste, the only local player among the 33 remaining players, as the first four trophies were awarded to players from outside Estonia.

Suviste trucked along as he witnessed his opponents hit the rail including German flag hunter Fabian Bartuschk (third – €2,000), Latvia’s Regnars Lindemanis (fourth – €1,420), Norway’s Sondre Stormyr (fifth – €1,080), Norway’s Tobias Napel (sixth – €870), Finland’s Sauli Haapaniemi (seventh – €680), and Finland’s Risto Ponnio (eighth – €540).

Eduards Rakuss was competing for the second title for Latvia but had to settle for the €2,920 runner-up prize instead with Suviste claiming the first trophy for the home country which came with the €4,552 top prize.

The one-day €150 NLH DeepStack lived up to its billing with 172 entries creating a €21,018 prize pool with the top 20 players earning at least a €300 min-cash for double the buy-in.

It seemed likely that a player from Finland would win their third trophy of the festival with three Finns and one Estonian battling it out with just four players remaining after Latvia’s Reinis Zdanovskis exited in fifth place for €1,420.

However, Siim Niido witnessed a trio of Finns, including Teemu Toikkanen (second – €3,260), Ville Vallenius (third – €2,350), and Roope Keminen (fourth – €1,830), hit the rail before becoming the second Estonian to win a trophy. Aleksandar Georgiev Puts His Stamp on the Kings of Tallinn Autumn Edition

Event #3: €150 NLH Progressive Bounty Hyper Turbo attracted 132 entries to create a €16,130 prize pool. This included €5,280 in progressive bounties and €10,850 on tap for players to earn from the prize pool.

It was an international affair which can be witnessed from the 15 players that cashed, which included players from Estonia, Finland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Germany, Spain, and Poland.
