Who are the winners of the Open de France golf tournament?

Since 1906, Open de France has become an essential event in the calendar of the best golfers today. This tournament, which has been held for several editions at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, has a long history behind it, and in 2024, it returns with even more force.

This year’s Open de France, which counts towards the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, will feature the best professionals of the moment, including Ryo Hitasune, who is defending his crown after his brilliant victory last season.

The Japanese golfer was the last in a long list of golfers capable of winning the title in France, a list that also includes several illustrious Spaniards, such as Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Pablo Larrazabal, and Miguel Ángel Jiménez, the last of whom won the title in 2010.

But it was undoubtedly Seve who had a special bond with this tournament, as his record includes a total of four titles between 1977 and 1986. As an interesting anecdote, all of them were won on different courses when Open de France was played at various golf clubs before moving to Le Golf National in 1991. To top it off, the Cantabrian still holds the record for the largest victory margin, winning in 1985 with 21 strokes under par for the course (Saint-Germain).

Other illustrious winners include Englishman Nick Faldo, who won three times, as well as Greg Norman and Sandy Lyle. However, none of them managed to match the five victories of British golfer Aubrey Boomer (1921, 1922, 1926, 1929, and 1931), the most decorated golfer in the history of the French Open.
