Ovidijus Berenis Wins OlyBet Vilnius Showdown Jacks of June Main Event

The buzz was brewing at Olympic Casino Vilnius as Ovidijus Berenis celebrated his victory in the inaugural 2024 OlyBet Vilnius Showdown Jacks of June €555 Main Event after denying Martynas Racinskas yet another big title in Vilnius after shipping the Fisherman’s Challenge in 2020.

Racinskas was in control throughout the final table until heads-up play began when he never held the chip lead. The €555 Main Event not only smashed the €150,000 guarantee but it established a new OlyBet Vilnius Showdown record with 390 entries getting into the mix to create a €187,200 prize pool.

Ovidijus Berenis Enters Lithuanian Poker History Books

The Main Event was down to just 21 hopefuls on its final day. Martynas Kaulakys began the day with the chip lead and was still near the top of the pack to start the final table after he eliminated Vytautas Kacerauskas on the final table bubble when his eights won a flip against ace-nine suited.

Ovidijus Berenis had a small lead to start the final table, but that quickly changed when Martynas Racinskas won a huge pot with a set of tens against Kaulakys to snag the chip lead, which he held onto in a dominating fashion until heads-up play began.

Racinskas padded his lead by eliminating WSOP bracelet winner Karolis Sereika when his king-queen got there against ace-king before winning a flip with big slick against jacks to eliminate Rokas Skridulis.

Tomas Bassus then eliminated the short-stacked Paulius Mikaliunas before Racinskas was back at it again eliminating Kaulakys with jack-nine against jack-deuce.

Some drama occurred shortly after when Vitalijus Piskunovas got his stack in with tens and was up against Berenis with queens. A ten spiked the flop but it was Berenis’s rail celebrating at the end as a queen spiked the river to leave just four players remaining.

Berenis’s ladies held shortly after in a different hand against ace-ten to eliminate Bassus and Racinskas’s once unsurmountable chip lead began falling apart. Racinskas doubled Berenis after his king-queen suited was unable to win a flip against jacks. Berenis then doubled against to come close to the chip lead when his pocket rockets were more than good against ace-nine suited.

Shortly after, Berenis delivered a bad beat to Audrius Navickas when his king-queen suited flopped a straight to defeat ace-king.

Shortly after, the duo discussed a deal which they quickly agreed upon guaranteeing both players a €30,000 payout with the winner taking home €34,950.

A hero call decided it at the end. Racinskas bricked his flush draw with ace-six suited with the eight-king-deuce-five-three on the board. He jammed his stack, hoping to get back into the lead if his opponent folded. However, Berenis wasted no time in calling with ace-five suited to win the title and celebrate with his loyal friends on the rail.
