On August 3rd, the very first OlyBet Golf Open tournament teed off at the Pärnu Bay Golf Links course. This marked OlyBet’s venture into golf event organization in Estonia. The competition, offering the coveted prize of participating in the prestigious DP World Tour D+D Real Czech Masters Pro-Am tournament, brought together more than 100 golf enthusiasts from various parts of Estonia.
OlyBet Golf Open is an individual 18-hole point play competition where anyone with a level below HCP 36 could register to play.
Competitions were held in four different categories: (A) men HCP 0-9.0 (white tees); (B) men HCP 9.1–18 (yellow tees); (C) women HCP 0–24 (red tees) and (D) men HCP 18.1–36 (yellow tees) and women HCP 24.1–36 (red tees) pooled.
The competition turned out to be extremely popular, as the registration limit was filled within the first five hours. Those who could not react in the first hours got the chance to compete as well. Namely, a unique lottery system was tested for the first time in Estonia, i.e., a competition place was guaranteed for the 20 fastest in each competition class, and the remaining 20+ places were distributed by raffling them out among all those on the waiting list.
The opportunity to play in Estonia’s first OlyBet Golf Open was worth the effort because the prizes were impressive – the top three in each category were awarded, and several raffle prizes were also distributed.
The main prize for the winners of classes A, B, and C was participation in the prestigious DP World Tour D+D Real Czech Masters Pro-Am competition taking place on August 23rd, 2023. The winner of class D was awarded a visitors package to the DP World Tour D+D Real Czech Masters, which will be held from August 24th to August 27th, 2023 at the Albatross Golf Resort in Prague.
The most intense fight for first place took place in the highest competition category – category A – where the winner was not revealed until the award ceremony. The main prize went to Jaak Vahi (Tartu Golf Club), who, in addition to a good 38-point round of golf, was also lucky in the card game. Namely, Kaido Peterson (Niitvälja Golf), who finished with the same result, drew an inferior card from the deck of cards presented at the award ceremony and thus had to settle for second place. Joel Mitt (Reval Golf Club) came third with 37 points.
In the competition category B, Martin Kambla (Niitvälja Golf) won the main prize with 42 points, Rein Karu (Rae Golf Club) finished second with 41 points, and Andero Mardo (Tartu Golf Club) came third with 40 points.
Competition category C was won by Liana Iila (Estonian Golf & Country Club), who played the best round of her life with 45 points. Liis Õll (Rae Golf Club) came second with 42 points, and Eva-Kristina Maaring (Tartu Golf Club) finished third with 38 points.
In competition category D, Grete Lind (Estonian Golf & Country Club) took first place with 44 points, second place went to Heda Lahe (Valgeranna Golf Club) with 40 points, and Hannela Takker (Niitvälja Golf) came third with 38 points.
“Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all participants of the OlyBet Golf Open competition! It was an extremely exciting competition day, during which we experienced everything – competitive thrill, the joy of the game, rain and sun,” commented Liina Liiv, chief marketing officer of OlyBet group.
“It is a great pleasure that our first competition turned out to be so popular and the feedback from the participants was so positive. It will certainly not be the last golf event of this kind organized by OlyBet in Estonia. Golf has become more and more popular every year and there is so much interesting happening in the world of golf. Therefore, OlyBet also wants to give golf in Estonia greater momentum than before and support the development of golf as a sport here,” added Liina.
OlyBet has been the official betting partner of the DP World Tour in Europe since March of this year. Thanks to this, OlyBet can bring new and unique opportunities to golf lovers, an excellent example of which is the main prize of this competition – a ticket to participate in the DP World Tour D+D Real Czech Masters Pro-Am competition. We are eagerly awaiting the impressions and emotions of the OlyBet Golf Open winners who will be visiting it!
During the OlyBet Golf Open competition day, in addition to the main competition, several additional competitions took place. There was a hole-in-one special prize for the 4th course of Pärnu Bay Golf Links as well, although this time it was not awarded. In addition, the competitors had the opportunity to enjoy versatile entertainment and plenty of excellent food and snacks by the track. The day ended with a festive ceremony and dinner, where the amazing Teele Viira, together with DJ Gita and saxophonist Mairo Marjamaa kept the spirits high.
