The third and fourth gold rings were awarded on Monday, Sept. 18 as the 2023 World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Tallinn at our plush surroundings of Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park in Uruguay’s Martin Lategui and Estonia’s Kaur Ajamaa. Tuesday is an even bigger day as not only will there be two more gold rings awarded but also today is the start of the €1 million guaranteed WSOPC Tallinn €1,500 Main Event.

Check out below what happened on Monday, Sept. 18, and what to expect on Tuesday.

Martin Lategui Wins Event #4: €555 PL 2-7 Triple Draw (€6,300)

Uruguay’s Martin Lategui came to Tallinn with one goal in mind which was to win a WSOP Circuit gold bracelet. Now, his goal will be to win a second one as he agreed to a heads-up even-chop deal with runner-up Aleksandr Arutjunov (second – €5,800) before going on to win the event for the money left to play for to earn €6,300, the coveted gold ring, and an invitation to the $1 million Tournament of Champions bracelet freeroll taking place during the 2024 WSOP in Las Vegas.

Aleksandr Arutjunov

“The WSOP Circuit ring was important,” Lategui said to OlyBet after his victory. “It was the most important part of the tournament. I love it. It was my first hope but hopefully not my last one.”

It appeared this event would belong to the Finns as when the final table began on the live-stream at OlyBet.tv on Monday four of the six remaining players in the money were from Finland including chip leader Juho Heiska.

The four Finns went out one by one with Lategui taking the lead which he held until heads-up play after first eliminating Janne Nevalainen in sixth place for €1,300. Heiska then blew up his stack to Arutjunov to join Nevalainen on the rail in fifth place for €1,850 before country-mates Petteri Kalenius (third – €3,650) and Kimmo Kurko (fourth – €2,700) to leave Arutjunov and Lategui close in chips to start the heads-up battle.

WSOPC Tallinn – €555 Pot Limit Deuce To Seven Triple Draw Final Table

Arutjunov was slightly behind in chips when the even-money deal was made but then stormed ahead to take a massive 3:1 chip advantage. However, Lategui stormed back with back-to-back coolers for Arutjunov with eight-high beating nine-high on both hands and the rest was history.

Ajamaa agreed to a three-way deal with Igor Pihela Sr. (second €16,050) and Italy’s Michele Tocci (third – €16,050) before eliminating both of his opponents to collect the extra €1,000 left to play for.

Igor Pihela Sr., Kaur Ajamaa and Michele Tocci

Pihela Sr. wasn’t the only Pihela in the mix on the second and final day. In fact, there were three family members advancing from the original 383 entry field to the final 49 players that advanced to Day 2. While Pihela’s son Igor Pihela Jr. was out midway through the final day in 27th place for €940 both Pihela Sr. and his daughter-in-law Evely Pihela both advanced to the final table. Unfortunately, those watching the live stream at OlyBet.tv didn’t get to witness the family dynamic for long as Evely was the first player out on the rail at the final table in ninth place for €2,400.
