Kings of Tallinn festival – the top destination for Mixed Games players

Poker OlyBet Poker 24.01.2023

The 2023 Kings of Tallinn is just a month away from dazzling players at the gorgeous Olympic Park Casino and the adjoining Hilton Tallinn Park on February 23 to March 5, 2023.

While many players are looking forward to the Kings of Tallinn €1,100 Main Event thanks to its solid structure and lofty €500,000 guarantee, many others have shared that the highlight for them is the plethora of mixed game events littered throughout the schedule.

Some players would argue that PLO events should also be mentioned among the mixed games, and the Kings of Tallinn 2023 schedule offers nine various PLO events, including the brand new €440 PLO 4&5 Mystery Bounty event and the prestigious €1,100 PLO Championship. You can find the full schedule of the Kings of Tallinn 2023 here, but in this article, we want to concentrate on other, more rare poker offerings.

Famous tournament director and founder of the Kings of Tallinn, Teresa Nousiainen, curated an impressive schedule featuring 53 events. While most of these events are in no-limit hold’em (NLH), there are also mixed game events in other poker varieties, including Omaha Hi/Lo8-GameSviten Special2-7 Triple DrawSoko, and Open-Face Chinese Pineapple.

Some of the latter games mentioned are rare to be offered at any other poker festival, especially at such affordable buy-ins. And also, there will be mixed-game cash games running around the clock, with games to be chosen based on player demand. And it generates the interest of players you can meet far from Tallinn on a usual basis.

Mixed Game Players Love the Schedule

While mixed-game communities have been active for years in Scandinavia, we decided instead to chat with a couple of the well-known players that helped grow the mixed-game scene on the majestic island of Malta, where the famous Battle of Malta will take place later in the year.

Sviten Special author and mixed-game enthusiast Martin Smith is making his first trip to Tallinn and only has one regret. He didn’t book his return flight to come back to Malta later. This is a word of advice for everyone. Take a close look at the schedule to see what events you want to play before booking your trip.

“I’ve been meaning to make it to the Kings of Tallinn for years now, and finally, my schedule is clear enough for me to come,” Smith shared. “My main focus is cash games, and I’m anticipating plenty of mixed game action for me and my buddies from Malta to jump into. Tournament-wise, of course, my first question is, ‘Where’s the Sviten?’ And there it is on Wednesday afternoon! I’ll certainly play the 8-game the previous day as well. Unfortunately, my flight home is on Saturday, so I’ll have to miss the OFC event, in which I have played plenty in cash games and a couple of tournaments. I will also, unfortunately, have to miss the Soko, which I have only played a few hands of, but would have tried that one for sure.”

Meanwhile, Wouter Schuurbiers was one of the key catalysts to growing the mixed games in Malta before moving back to his home country of Belgium at the end of 2022. Schuurbiers is taking advantage of his time away from the island with a bit of poker travel through the Baltics as he will first be heading to Lithuania for the first time to attend the Vilnius Ace Breaker on February on January 28 to February 5, 2023 before heading to Tallinn for the first time.

“I am looking forward to coming to my first Kings of Tallinn with some old friends from Malta,” said mixed game player Schuurbiers. “We have an amazing mixed game community in Malta that is excited to not only play in the many mixed game events on the schedule but also for some long cash game sessions. The main thing I am looking forward to is some OFC action, including the €350 tournament.”

We look forward to welcoming Smith, Schuurbiers, and all mixed-game players and welcome their feedback before, during, and after the event.
